A Divine Interruption

Remarkably, God wants to involve those who trust Him in His ongoing mission in the world. People matter to God. The biblical story reveals we can not only experience relationship with God, but we can also experience the privilege of participation in His ongoing redemptive purposes. Curiously, we may balk at the privilege. Whether because of pride or fear or prejudice, we may actually prefer to see judgment rather than mercy with people we encounter. Why is that? God confronts us with that tendency in us through the story of Jonah. This Old Testament story is eye-opening. Jonah was a reluctant prophet. He ran from God. While Jonah runs from God, the LORD does not abandon Jonah. In what ways might we be prone to run from God?
