In both His life and His teaching, Jesus showed us what God is like. That question, “What is God like?” is a question that ignited controversy between Jesus and the Pharisees who were religious leaders in the first century. Jesus told a story that we have come to refer to as the “Parable of the Prodigal Son.” In this story, there were actually two sons – two sons who we learn were both out of fellowship with their father as the story opens, but for very different reasons. In the story Jesus told, He references a father whose actions and responses are stunningly compassionate. This is a story about the heart of God and His desire to welcome home anyone who would turn to Him and lay down their rebellion. What does Jesus want to teach us about God the Father through the younger son in this important story He told?
